The 10 Most Anticipated Movies of 2012

Last year’s list of most anticipated movies of 2011 had a healthy combination of hits and misses – The Hangover 2, Cowboys & Aliens, Green Lantern, and The Rum Diary proved the expression “don’t believe the hype” while other movies like Rise of the Planet of the Apes far surpassed expectations much to the chagrin (yeah, I said it) of cranky commenters. So, which movies releasing in 2012 are dudes most looking forward to? Well, don’t expect much different from Hollywood – they’re sticking to their arsenal of sequels, prequels, superheroes, reboots, and re-envisionings of classic fairy tales. That doesn’t mean we’re any less pumped to see the following 10 flicks. Check ‘em out below and sound off in the comments.

#30. This Is Forty
Directed by:Judd Apatow
Starring: Jason Segel, Megan Fox, Leslie Mann, Paul Rudd, Melissa McCarthy
Release Date:December 21, 2012
The spin-off to 2007's Knocked Up won't star Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl but will instead focus on the married couple in trouble, Pete (Rudd) and Debbie (Mann). However, it's Megan Fox and Melissa McCarthy who've got our interest piqued.

#10. Titanic in 3D
Directed by: James Cameron
Starring: Leo DiCaprio, Kate Winslet, Billy Zane
Release Date:April 6, 2012
The special re-release of the second highest grossing flick of all-time takes place on the 100th anniversary of both the sailing of the fated ship and Paramount Pictures. We got a special sneak peek at the converted edition and we immediately began drawing each other in the nude.

#9. Snow White and the Huntsman

Directed by: Rupert Sanders

Starring: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Ian McShane, Lily Cole

Release Date: June 1, 2012

This is one of 2 Snow White flicks coming out in 2012 - the other being "Mirror, Mirror", which is a comedy while Huntsman is gritty action. We think Mirror, Mirror should consider throwing in the towel.

#8. Django Unchained

Directed by: Quentin Tarantino

Starring: Leo DiCaprio, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Samuel L. Jackson, Sacha Baron Cohen, Kurt Russell, Jamie Foxx, Don Johnson

Release Date: December 25, 2012

With the help of his mentor, a slave-turned-bounty hunter sets out to rescue his wife from a brutal plantation owner. Supposedly, this is the first role where Leo plays the antagonist. Tarantino + Leo as a villain = WIN.

#7. The Amazing Spider-Man

Directed by: Marc Webb (hahahahaha, seriously)

Starring: Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Rhys Ifans, Martin Sheen, Denis Leary, Sally Field

Release Date: July 3, 2012

This "reboot" comes out 5 years after the horrible Spidey 3, the trailer got knocked for ripping off Mirror's Edge and I don't buy Garfield as Parker. Webb's directed a ton of cool music videos and 500 Days of Summer, but can he handle a blockbuster?

#6. World War Z

Directed by: Marc Forster

Starring: Brad Pitt, Bryan Cranston

Release Date: December 21, 2012

This post-apocalyptic tale follows a UN employee who interviews survivors of the Zombie apocalypse. AICN called it, "a genre-defining piece of work that could (have) us all arguing about whether or not a zombie movie qualifies as 'Best Picture' material". It's also been compared stylistically to Children of Men.

#5. The Dictator

Directed by: Larry Charles

Starring: Sacha Baron Cohen, Anna Faris, John C. Reilly, Megan Fox

Release Date: May 11, 2012

Inspired by Saddam Hussein's novel, this sure to be epic comedy "tells the heroic story of a dictator who risked his life to ensure that democracy would never come to the country he so lovingly oppressed".

#4. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Directed by: Peter Jackson

Starring: Ian McKellen, Andy Serkis, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Evangeline Lilly, Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett

Release Date: December 14, 2012

The first part of a two-part series ("There and Back Again" comes out 12/2013), "Journey" follows Bilbo Baggins as he joins 13 dwarves to reclaim a treasure from the dragon that conquered their kingdom. No Liv Tyler but we do get Evangeline Lilly.

#3. The Hunger Games

Directed by: Gary Ross

Starring: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz

Release Date: March 23, 2012

North America is replaced by Panem, a country divided into 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games, which is like Running Man for Teens.

#2. The Avengers

Directed by: Joss Whedon

Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Samuel L Jackson

Release Date:

S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury assembles a team of superheroes that includes Iron man, Captain America, Hulk (this generation's "Hamlet" according to Ruffalo), Thor, Black Widow, and Hawkeye to battle Loki.

#1. The Dark Knight Rises

Directed by: Christopher Nolan

Starring: Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Anne Hathaway, Tom hardy, Marion Cotillard, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Morgan Freeman

Release Date: July 20, 2012

Eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, Batman must return to face Bane and figure out what's up with Selina Kyle (Catwoman).
